Houston Methodist St. John Hospital invites members of the Bay Area clergy and others who work in or visit religious institutions to a unique and informative lunchtime seminar, “Active Shooters in Sacred Spaces,” presented by the League City Police Department.
The seminar is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22, from noon to 2 p.m. in the West Building Conference Room at Houston Methodist St. John Hospital, 2035 Space Park Drive in Nassau Bay. A light lunch will be provided.
“Many of our patients tell us about the places of worship and meditation where they find support, guidance and meaning in their lives,” says Rev. Richard Maddox, director of Spiritual Care and Values Integration at Houston Methodist St. John Hospital. “The churches, temples, synagogues and mosques in our community are places of healing, just as the hospital is, and we feel a partnership with these sacred spaces. This seminar – with its very important message – is one way we can help support and sustain them.”
The League City Police Department provides training on active shooter situations to help protect citizens from violence in settings such as schools, offices and places of worship. The seminar will cover a broad range of related topics for clergy and others, including how to prepare for such an emergency, how to react should a situation arise and more.
