State Rep. Dr. Greg Bonnen will speak to the League City Chamber of Commerce membership and the community at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, about Texas border security, as well as legislative and budgetary deliberations ongoing in House committee.
The meeting will be held at Butler’s Courtyard, 122 Michigan Ave., League City, and is open to all Chamber members and the general public. For reservations, RSVP to [email protected] for guaranteed seating. This meeting is sponsored by the Chamber Legislative Affairs Committee.
Dr. Bonnen is a member of the House Committee on the Fiscal Impact of Texas Border Support Operations, as well as the House Appropriations Committee, which oversees the state budget.
The House Committee on the Fiscal Impact of Texas Border Support Operations has been tasked with examining the short- and long-term budgetary effects of addressing increased activity along the Texas-Mexico border. This includes monitoring the costs of those operations, and the expense of other services associated with increased border crossings.
The committee is also charged with reviewing and evaluating any support that Texas receives from the federal government to address this issue, studying the influx’s effect on resources available to local governments, and determining the long-term budgetary ramifications of these efforts to ensure Texans’ safety.
