From Pasadena to Baytown and Beyond, Neighbors Emergency Center is a Texas Success
Just a few short years ago, Neighbors Emergency Center opened its fi rst location in the Houston metropolitan area. Neighbors Emergency Center now has five thriving facilities including one in Baytown and one in Pasadena. Plans are in place to expand to Austin and Beaumont in 2014. How, during a downturn in the economy, did NEC achieve so much success is such a short span of time?
The answer can be found in Chief Executive Offi cer Dr. Setul Patel’s vision for providing the best emergency medical care in conveniently located, state-of-the-art facilities. Dr Patel understands that conventional emergency rooms are unpleasant as they are most often crowded. “At Neighbors Emergency Center, patients with all types of emergencies receive high quality medical care from board-certi ed doctors who are highly experienced in Emergency Medicine“ says Dr. Patel. “The people who walk through our doors deserve the best. The Neighbors Emergency Center philosophy is to provide treatment and services where the patients’ comfort and care are the priority. When a patient walks into NEC, the difference is immediately clear. At conventional hospital emergency rooms the wait times can be as long as four hours or more. At Neighbors Emergency Center, “waiting room” is a misnomer. With little or no wait time, patients are expediently checked-in and treated by emergency medical professionals. For friends and family who accompany their loved ones who are ill or injured, the lobbies are designed to be warm and inviting, with ample light for reading and even a HDTV. The thoughtfully chosen furniture and appealing, colorful interior design create a soothing atmosphere.
At Neighbors Emergency Centers, the doctors focus on each patient’s needs. All treatment rooms are private, which allows for better communication between physicians and patients, and all rooms have HDTVs for patients and advocates who may accompany patients during the examination and treatment. The pediatric treatment rooms are designed especially for children to ease any apprehensions they may have about going to the doctor.
This level of service and comfort is only part of the story—NEC has highly experienced emergency medical professionals and state-of-the-art equipment. “It’s important that our patients have the same access to medical services as they would receive at any emergency room. That’s why all Neighbors Emergency Centers are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year including all holidays. Additionally, every Neighbors location is fully-equipped with on-site laboratory testing as well as X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound and other imaging services,” says Myra Graves, Director of Operations.
Quality, Comprehensive Emergency Care
Neighbors Emergency Centers are all staffed with nurses and doctors who received training in hospital emergency departments and trauma centers. This emphasis on expertise in Emergency Medicine sets NEC apart from other facilities. NEC is able to treat a wide range of illnesses and injuries. From coughs, fevers and the u to respiratory infections, chest pain, and abdominal pain, NEC is ready to treat patients with sudden or ongoing health problems. For injuries like lacerations, broken bones, sprains, and strains, NEC has in-house radiology and imaging and can provide stitches, splits, and crutches to patients who are eager to get back on their feet.
Should a critical situation arise, NEC doctors are trained in pediatric and cardiac life support and protocols. NEC can also facilitate patients’ direct admittance to the hospital, bypassing the conventional hospital emergency room.
Serving the Community
NEC has locations all over the Houston metro area including its new facility and corporate of ces in Pearland as well as locations in Bellaire, Kingwood, Baytown and Pasadena. On the east side, Baytown and Pasadena are conveniently near area schools, businesses, and industry. In Baytown, NEC is in the Highland Farms community and draws patients from the Lee College, Mont Belvieu, La Porte, Goose Creek, Channelview and Cedar Bayou communities as well as employees from ExxonMobil Chemical Plant. When the Pasadena NEC opened earlier this summer, the communities of Pasadena, Deer Park, and La Porte gained a valuable resource—access to expert nurses and doctors with a high level of training and experience in Emergency Medicine.
Neighbors Emergency Center also provides fun activities for kids and families. In Pasadena, the children’s treatment rooms are decorated with Disney characters, and this location had a special Disney Junior event in August. NEC partnered with Disney Junior to bring the Doc McStuf ns Toy Clinic, a fun day where kids could bring their toys and stuffed animals for a check-up. “Special events like these help us get to know the families that use our centers and give kids an opportunity to learn, through play and crafts, that doctors and nurses are here to help them be healthy and happy,” says NEC board-certi ed emergency physician Dr. Cyril Gillman.
In the past year, Neighbors Emergency Center has also been a part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and coordinated a Toy Donation over the holiday season. These events are a part of NEC’s commitment to serving the community in ways that benefi t the health and well-being of Texas families.
